Here at OP.com we travel a lot. Whether we are off to Paris for fashion week, or enjoying an island getaway, we like to think weâ€™ve mastered the ultimate inflight beauty routine. However, on a recent trip from Auckland, New Zealand to London Heathrow, I found out that when it comes to seriously long haul fights, thereâ€™s a whole lot more than moisturizer and facial mists that goes into salvaging your skin.
It just so happens that the Auckland to Doha leg of my journey with Qatar Airways is the worldâ€™s longest flight, at a whopping 17-hours and 30-minutes and covering a distance of 14,500km. Thatâ€™s a whole lot of time to be sitting in nasty recycled air. Because I was lucky enough to be flying Business Class, I received one of the new Qatar Airways amenity kits, which have been created in partnership with luggage designer BRICS and Italian skincare brand Castello Monte Vibiano Vecchio. These kits are packed full of moisturizers, lip balms and facial sprays â€“ the ultimate skin saviours. However, for those of you having to pack your own, here is what youâ€™ll need to ensure you get to your destination fresh-faced and glowing.
STEP 1: REMOVE MAKEUP
First things first, your makeup has to come off. Today’s face wipe formulas are strong enough to remove every last trace of product and of course, they are TSA-friendly. We love Cliniqueâ€™sÂ Take The Day Off Micellar Cleansing Towelettes for Face & Eyes. Thereâ€™s no need for water and the re-sealable package makes them ideal for travel.
STEP 2: MIST
After removing your makeup, give your skin a few good sprays with Caudalieâ€™s Beauty Elixir. The complexion treatment reduces dullness and is infused with toning rosemary, astringent mint, and soothing rose essential oil.
STEP 3: APPLY A FACE MASK
Donâ€™t worry, these days itâ€™s totally acceptable to apply an inflight face masks. We recommend the SK-II Facial Treatment Mask. It immediately replenishes dehydrated skin, leaving it refreshed and cool.Â
STEP 4: HYDRATE
Now that your face is feeling hydrated, make sure you do the same for your body. If you can, avoid coffee, soft drinks and alcohol in favor of herbal tea, water and electrolyte-replenishing beverages.
STEP 5: GET SOME SLEEP
Not only will a little shuteye help ward off jetlag, but it will also have you looking and feeling more alert upon landing. Youâ€™ll want to make sure you pack an eye mask, earplugs and a neck pillow in your carry-on for the ultimate beauty rest.
STEP 6: APPLY A FACIAL OIL
After youâ€™ve managed to get some zzz’s, youâ€™ll want to apply a hydrating facial oil. Apply liberally concentrating on your cheeks, forehead and chin.
STEP 7: REPEAT
Depending on how long your flight is youâ€™ll want to repeat steps 2 and 6 every couple of hours to ensure your skin stays hydrated.
STEP 8: REDO YOUR MAKEUP
Once your destination is less than an hour away, apply a moisturizer such as the Origins GinZing Energy-Boosting Moisturizer, which will help brighten tired skin. Next, apply a tinted moisturizer or BB Cream like Laura Mercierâ€™s Tinted Moisturizer Broad Spectrum SPF 20 which will give you a healthy, dewy glow. Apply a little concealer just under your eyes to cover bags and beside your nose to reduce redness. Once youâ€™ve sorted your base, youâ€™ll want to dab a cream blush along your cheekbones and add a little color to your lips. The Tarte Cheek Stain is perfect for this. Last but not least, apply a few strokes of your favorite mascara, concentrating on the outer lashes, to help open up your eyes.
