As some people say, it’s the clothes that make the man, and our opinion is that any man that’s wearing Thom Sweeney clearly knows more than a thing or two. In case you haven’t heard of them, Thom Sweeney is comprised of design duo, Thom Whiddet and Luke Sweeney, who met while working at Timothy Everest and decided to make something for themselves back in 2006. Since then, they’ve created a forward-thinking contemporary bespoke design house that produces made-to-measure and RTW pieces that compliment their consumers lifestyles (all of which have the utmost discerning taste).
They began as tailors, setting up shop in 2009 and have evolved into creating pieces that remind us of what the modern James Bond would wear both casually during the day as well as for a black-tie affair at night. It’s suave without being stuffy. We’re talking quintessential staples that will last a lifetime as seen in styles like their slim-fit Melange Wool, Silk and Linen blended suit, (perfect for everyday), a satin-trimmed velvet tuxedo jacket for special occasions as well as cashmere overcoats, Merino wool sweater vests and pleated stretch-cotton chinos. There are also accessories to compliment these looks such as pocket squares, ties, bow-ties, caps and scarves.
Most recently, the men have opened up their first flagship outside of the UK, right here in NYC. It combines their two already standing brick-and-mortars by bringing both their made-to-measure and RTW together for one ultimate brand experience. And while their pieces are ready around the globe at some of the highest-end retailers (Bergdorf Goodman, Selfridges) as well as .com’s like Mr. Porter and Matches, they continue to push to create timeless pieces by listening to what their customers are seeking and thank their apprentices (from Newham College) who learn from and grow to become master tailors to travel to consumers around the world.
